Christmas raffle proceeds going to MND Scotland

At our 2017 Christmas party ago we ran a raffle. Many of you donated prizes and many of you bought raffle tickets. As a result, we made £180. Thank you so much to you all. I have taken my time to decide which cause the money could go to, but at the end of January this article appeared in a local newspaper (click to enlarge):

Article Defying the onset of MND
I have known John and his wife Pat for many years and they have attended our classes and dances in the past. I contacted John and Pat and asked them if our raffle money could help them with the expense of publishing and distributing their book. They were very thankful for this offer but explained that the book was already available and selling well but would we like to donate the money to MND Scotland who are an amazing support to those who have MND and to their families. This fantastic organisation provides Specialist Care and Equipment; Expert Information and Education and Emotional and Practical Support. John was diagnosed a year ago and during that time, the support to him and his family has been tremendous.

Book The Robert Stories by John E. Smith I have just had a visit from Pat who very kindly gave me lots of information on MND Scotland which I plan to display at the classes to raise awareness, as well as some copies of John’s books which will be on sale for £10 with £5 going to MND Scotland.

The book is beautiful and very good quality. All true stories written by John and illustrated by Annabel, John and Pat’s daughter. I feel very privileged to have received my signed copy today.

John is doing well despite his diagnosis. He is getting out and about. Going shopping, going out for lunch, cycling, cooking and Pat reckons he can still do a mean Quickstep!! I have always found John inspiring and even more so now.

I’m going to make the donation up to a nice round £200 and get that sent off today. Thank you so much to all of you who support the classes, sessions and social dances – for all your kindness and generosity.
