Medal Tests Weekend with Sue Cooper
What a wonderful Medal Tests weekend we have experienced on 27 and 28 September!
We had 73 medal tests altogether. A mixture of Ballroom, Latin, Sequence and Rock 'n' Roll. The most Medal Tests we have ever had in the five years we have been holding them.
Our examiner Sue Cooper was just wonderful. So professional, so lovely and friendly to everyone, and she didn't miss a thing! Sue told me just before we got the Medal Tests underway early on Saturday morning that she was a stickler for technique, and grades given to everyone would reflect that.
Everyone waiting to take their tests mingled out in the foyer while my mum and Kath plied them with teas and sandwiches. Everyone supported each other and every time anyone walked back into the foyer after having taken their Tests there was a huge round of applause. Sue was very aware of the camaraderie being shown and it showed our Dance School in a very good light. I am over the moon at how well everyone did and at our overall results. I am very very proud of all the Medallists and how hard they have worked.
A special mention of our Thurso dancers who travelled down especially to do their Medal Tests and make a weekend of it. Well done to all of them!
We had a fantastic Social Dance evening after the Medal Tests were over. A great turnout practically filled the hall. Sue joined us for a couple of hours and it was an honour to have her there.
On Sunday, Sue delivered two high-quality Workshops in Ballroom and Latin. She based the content on common faults she had picked up during the Medal Tests, and everyone, including me, gained such a lot from that. Her delivery of the workshops was very professional, very clear and concise, very interesting and easy to follow, and her friendly, humorous, elegant teaching style won everybody over. Everybody left full of inspiration and enthusiasm and I'm hoping that we can get her back again next year. She is keen to see how you will all have improved by then!
Today I am still feeling totally exhausted and can't think straight! It has been a very stressful couple of weeks due to the Medal Test weekend and also the fact that I had my own teaching exam the weekend before. It has all taken a lot of thought and organisation but I couldn't do it without the support of all of you. Thank you for everything!
Next to arrange is our all important Medal Presentation night where my plan is to have a high-standard Demonstration Couple perform for us and present the Medals. This will be end of February or into March. Sue is going to help me find a very special Couple for you. She holds three Balls per year and has done this for as long as she can remember, so she has a lot of fantastic contacts.
Medal Tests 2015: Saturday 26 September
After the huge success of our Medal Test weekend, I thought there was no point in hanging around and have already got next year's booked! Sue Cooper will be back with us to do our Medal Tests on Saturday 26 September 2015. Very likely to be the same format as this year with Social Dance and Workshops.
