Caroline Coomber School of Dance
Professional Tuition in Ballroom, Latin, Rock 'n' Roll, Sequence, and Belly Dance
Come along and experience the joy of learning to dance at our regular sessions in Elgin and Inverness. Ballroom, Latin American, Classical Sequence, and Rock 'n' Roll are all taught by Caroline Coomber, a Professional Dance Teacher who is a member of the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dance and an Associate of the International Dance Teachers Association.
Our sessions include classes, workshops, practice sessions, private tuition, wedding tuition and social dance events, medal work, and competition work.
Once a year we hold a Medal Test Day, and we regularly invite top class Professional Dancers to the area to demonstrate and lecture for us. In the last few years we have had Richard Still and Morgan Hemphill; Ben Taylor and Stefanie Bosen; Michael and Lauren Hemera; and AJ Pritchard and Chloe Hewitt (who are now working as Professional dancers on 'Strictly Come Dancing').
Special award for John Cunningham
Recently, our main Dance Association, United Kingdom Alliance, held their 30th Highland Gathering at Dyce. A number of us attended the celebratory dinner, including John Cunningham, my dance teacher from when I was 10 years old, and his wife Isobel.
It was an extra special evening because John was presented with a very special award by David Roberts, Chief Executive of the UKA.
It was a complete surprise to John and a very special moment for us all with a few tears.

Sunday Practice Sessions in Lossiemouth
Weekly dance practice sessions are at Lossiemouth Town Hall every Sunday from 11am until 1pm. All welcome. We have decided on £5 per person at the moment to ensure that hall hire costs are met but this may be reduced in the future if there is a good regular attendance.
This is being run by Brian Watt and Kathy McGrath Gunn with support from Hakon Soreide and Amina Adamu. I won’t be attending regularly but I’ll probably come along from time to time.
Practice sessions are always very sociable and enjoyable. Practice the steps you’ve learned in class and meet new friends; our more experienced dancers are always more than happy to help you if you forget something. Why not bring along a flask of coffee and some biscuits or a packed lunch? Or go out to lunch afterwards in one of the many fantastic eateries in the Lossiemouth area?
Please contact me for further details.
Sequence Dance Class in Elgin
In this Class, which runs in Elgin on Friday afternoons 12.15pm – 13.15pm, we are concentrating on Classical Sequence but covering Popular Sequence dances too.
Please contact me for more information.
Rock 'n' Roll Class in Lossiemouth/Elgin
Anyone can attend, whether you have tried Rock 'n' Roll before or you are a complete Beginner, we cater for everyone. The steps are very straightforward and lots of fun, and allow you to dance to fast music without getting out of breath!
Please contact me for more information, and next date (this is not a weekly class).
Discount on Dance Shoes and Dancewear
I now receive teacher discount from Move Dancewear. They stock a great choice of Latin and Ballroom Dance Shoes at competitive prices and I can also recommend their Dancewear. Delivery is free when you spend a minimum of £30, which is another great saving.
I also receive teacher discount from Supadance, Ray Rose, Freed of London, and International Dance Shoes.
I am happy to order shoes for you so you can benefit from these discounts. All I ask is that if they don’t fit or they are unsuitable, you have the responsibility of dealing with the returns/exchanges.
Medal Tests News
Medal Tests again a great success
Congratulations to all the fantastic dancers who went through their UKA Medal Tests on Saturday 18 January. Everything about the weekend was so well supported including the Workshops and the Social Dance. The weekend takes a lot of organisation and I for one can’t relax for a second; there is so much to think about. It’s well worth it though.
Thank you to everyone who helped make it all such a success. Joan Martin, our Examiner, absolutely loved her time with us. We are so lucky that such an important lady in the Dance World wants to do so much for us. She may be back in August! Watch this space! Doing Medal Tests
Doing Medal Tests improves your dancing and your confidence, there is no doubt about that. It makes you practice and it gives you something to aim for.
All grades are done through my Association, the United Kingdom Alliance (UKA) of Professional Teachers of Dance. The Award you receive (a beautiful Certificate and a Medal) is recognised internationally and the UKA do Medal Tests worldwide.
You have the opportunity of doing Medal Tests in Ballroom, Latin, Modern Sequence, Classical Sequence, Rock 'n' Roll, and Argentine Tango. You can start off with a Pre Bronze Award if you want. This requires only one dance per dance style with a short routine. Or you can start with Bronze where two dances are required again with short straightforward routines. You can then move onto Silver and Gold and higher if you so wish.

Aberdeen 27 October 2019
Our three couples who competed in the Dancesport Scotland Northern Trophy Day at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen were all fantastic and did so well against some stiff opposition. This is a lovely competition at a unique venue and with a supportive and friendly atmosphere.
Falkirk 1 September 2019
Representing our Dance School were Peter Alexander and Joanne Bugden, and Brian Watt and Kathy McGrath Gunn. Both couples had been working exceptionally hard and practicing non stop, and were also trialing new routines. They scored impressive results.
Falkirk 28 April 2019
We had two couples taking part in the Dancesport Scotland Competition on Sunday 28 April 2019 at Falkirk Town Hall. We had a fantastic day with both our couples, all experienced, successful competitors, dancing really well — a credit to our Dance School.
