Caroline Coomber School of Dance
Professional Tuition in Ballroom, Latin, Rock 'n' Roll, Sequence, and Belly Dance
Come along and experience the joy of learning to dance at our regular sessions in Elgin and Inverness. Ballroom, Latin American, Classical Sequence, and Rock 'n' Roll are all taught by Caroline Coomber, a Professional Dance Teacher who is a member of the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dance and an Associate of the International Dance Teachers Association.
Our sessions include classes, workshops, practice sessions, private tuition, wedding tuition and social dance events, medal work, and competition work.
Once a year we hold a Medal Test Day, and we regularly invite top class Professional Dancers to the area to demonstrate and lecture for us. In the last few years we have had Richard Still and Morgan Hemphill; Ben Taylor and Stefanie Bosen; Michael and Lauren Hemera; and AJ Pritchard and Chloe Hewitt (who are now working as Professional dancers on 'Strictly Come Dancing').

Saturday 6 October in Elgin:
Social Dance evening for Children in Need
Eve Braidwood, one of our dancers, has organised a Social Dance evening with proceeds going to Children in Need. It takes place at New Elgin Hall, Land Street, Elgin on Saturday 6 October, 7.30pm – 10.30pm, and there will be live music by Western Rhythm who are well known for providing great music for dancing. All of the Ballroom and Latin Dance rhythms will be played as well as some Sequence Dancing.
Tickets are £10 per person and must be booked in advance; numbers will be restricted to allow lots of room for dancing. Bring your own snacks and drinks.
To order a ticket please call Eve on 07968 945086 or email her at email@example.com. Once you have booked your ticket, if you want, you can give the money to me at the classes and I will forward it to Eve.
Steve and I plan to go along because I think it will be a great night. Hope you can make it too.

Raffle proceeds going to Diabetes UK
At our recent Sunday afternoon Dance we collected £110, which I have donated to a local young man called Douglas Nevins who is raising money for Diabetes UK. On 14 September he will be cycling from London to Paris in 24 hours.
Discount on Dance Shoes and Dancewear
I now receive teachers’ discount from Move Dancewear. They stock a great choice of Latin and Ballroom Dance Shoes at competitive prices and I can also recommend their Dancewear. Delivery is free when you spend a minimum of £30, which is another great saving. I also receive teacher discount from Supadance, Ray Rose, Freed of London, and International Dance Shoes.
I am happy to order shoes for you so you can benefit from these discounts. All I ask is that if they don’t fit or they are unsuitable, you have the responsibility of dealing with the returns/exchanges.
Medal Tests News
Next Medal Tests on 18/19 January
Our next Medal Tests will be on the weekend of 18/19 January. Further details to follow soon. I had a lovely chat with Joan Martin, our examiner. As I explained before, she is so busy with family, her Dance School and with her UKA President's duties around the world that it has been really difficult for us to confirm anything, until now.
Doing Medal Tests
Doing Medal Tests improves your dancing and your confidence, it makes you practice and it gives you something to aim for. All grades are done through the UKA (UK Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dance). The award you receive (a beautiful Certificate and a Medal) is recognised internationally and the UKA do Medal Tests worldwide.
Weekend with Michael and Lauren a huge success
Our demonstration couple for 2018 were Michael Hemera and Lauren McFarlane Hemera. On Saturday 7 April at Lossiemouth Town Hall they performed a five-Dance Latin Show for us, and they also presented Medals and Certificates to those who did their exams in September 2017. On Sunday morning they lead a couple of Latin workshops.
Fabulous Medal Tests Weekend
On 29 and 30 September 2017 we had a fabulous Medal Tests weekend: a mixture of Medal Tests, Workshops, private lessons, and Social Dance evening. Joan Martin, our examiner, was just amazing and gave us so much of her time during her stay. She was so wonderful to everyone and having a friendly examiner makes all the difference when it comes to nerves! I am so proud of all those who took their tests. You all worked so hard and you all danced so well just when it mattered on the Big Day.
Next competition: Sunday 28 October in Aberdeen

There is a category for all ages covering the social dancer to the amateur dancer. If you want to know more, just get in touch. This event is also a great day out in a fabulous venue for anyone wishing to spectate and support our couples.
Sunday 2 December: Scottish Closed Championships in Glasgow
The Scottish Closed Ballroom and Latin Championships will take place at Glasgow Marriott Hotel on Sunday 2 December. It is an evening event which includes a four-course dinner and dance as well as the Ballroom and Latin competitions. A huge glitzy affair and a chance to get dressed up to the nines.
Falkirk 9 September 2018
Three of our couples competed in Dancesport Scotland's competition in Falkirk. They were trying out new routines for the first time in a competitive environment and all did extremely well.
Falkirk 18 March 2018
What a fantastic day we had at the Falkirk Dancesport Scotland Competition where we had three of our couples admirably representing our Dance School. They were up against some serious opposition but they weren't at all phased and scored a very impressive array of results.
Blackpool 6 January 2018
On Saturday 6 January we had three couples representing us at the Champions of Tomorrow Competition in the world-famous Empress Ballroom at Blackpool Winter Gardens. They did us proud in what is a notoriously difficult event to progress in. They were up against very stiff competition and were dancing in front of around 3000 people.
Aberdeen 29 October 2017
We had a very successful competition day at Aberdeen Beach Ballroom. We had five couples competing in this event and it has been one of our most successful competitions with four trophies being won by our Dance School.
