Latest ... new Advanced Ballroom & Latin American Class in Lossiemouth

I have started a new, advanced Dance Class on Thursday evenings 7.45 - 8.45pm at Lossiemouth Community Centre.
In this class I am teaching new and interesting Ballroom and Latin American figures, variations and amalgamations.
The class is aimed at dancers who wish to further their knowledge, to broaden their dancing horizons and to add to their repertoire.
A reasonable knowledge of standard Ballroom and Latin American figures would be required of all of those wishing to attend.

You will be taught something new every week. I don't plan to repeat or recap anything in this class. It would be up to you to take the steps away with you and practice them if you wanted to use them.
If those attending feel that a choreography sheet showing the steps and the timing of each routine would be beneficial I will certainly provide this on request.

The 6.30pm Thursday Improvers Class carries on as normal, and as always I am concentrating on set Ballroom and Latin American routines (Silver and Gold Medal level) in this class, which I will return to and recap on a regular basis.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further details.

Exciting news ... Richard and Morgan are coming back !!

Richard Still and Morgan Hemphill, UK Professional Ten Dance Champions, are coming back to see us on the weekend of 15th and 16th September. The weekend will consist of a Medal Presentation Evening, general dancing, demonstrations, Ballroom and Latin Workshop, and maybe private lessons.

About Caroline Coomber  UKAPTD

photo of Caroline Caroline is a full time dance teacher based in the North East of Scotland, specialising in Ballroom and Latin American dance. She is qualified to Licentiate level with the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dance (UKAPTD), and she runs classes and workshops all over Moray and beyond. She is available for private tuition and for working with wedding couples on their First Dance, and also works under contract with various organisations. People of all ages attend her sessions, from children in schools to people in their eighties, and all levels of ability are taught from the complete Beginner to the Intermediate dancer.

Caroline was taught Latin American and Ballroom dancing by John Cunningham in Elgin for many years, and it's to him that she owes her progression onto teaching, which has been a life changing experience for her. John is still an important person in her development as a teacher, and she also attends regular lessons with Alan Millar in Edinburgh. When turning professional in 2006, Alan and his wife, Norma, were undefeated Scottish National Amateur Ballroom Champions; 5 times Scottish Open Senior Ballroom Champions; 21 times Scottish National Senior Ballroom Champions; and 3 times winners of the British National Senior o/50s Ballroom Championships. Check out their website: www.millarsdancestudios.co.uk

The classes and workshops are fun and informal and people are made to feel very welcome, but at the same time a serious amount of work is covered. People attending for the first time will be surprised at how quickly they will be dancing. Steps are shown slowly and in detail, starting with the basics, and as these are mastered, pupils progress onto learning routines. As you get more confident, more challenging choreography is taught. This type of dance is a great way of keeping fit, toning up, improving posture, increasing confidence and meeting new friends. You take from it what you want, whether it be learning just a few simple steps so you can dance socially or moving into Medal and/or Competition work - it's entirely up to you. For some people it can be a life changing experience.

Social get-togethers are arranged on a regular basis, and there are Sunday morning Practice Sessions available which give you the opportunity to try out what you've been learning in class. It gives you the chance to meet and observe other dancers also.

Dances taught are Modern Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive, which are the ten Dancesport dances, as well as Rock 'n' Roll and Sequence Dancing.
